Raul Trinidad
Texas A&M Freshman

Raul graduated from Northbrook High School in Houston, Texas in May of 2004 with anticipation of going to Texas A&M University. Raul would be the first in his family to attend college! Neither his parents nor his two older sisters attended college. Raul had originally planned on majoring in engineering though after participating in the “Ready, Set, Teach” course he decided to pursue a career in education. His teacher Mrs. Schwab was very influential in his decision; Mrs. Schwab was a strong support and helped him “a lot” with her encouragement and in the college application process. Raul visited Mrs. Schwab during the winter break to let her know that all was good and that he was happy with his decision to attend Texas A&M.. Other support for Raul came from the Houston Area Initiative (HAI), as individuals from HAI were always there to answer questions. Raul was also drawn to the field of education when he found out that scholarships were available for education majors. Raul received scholarships during his first semester and is presently “hanging in there.”, hoping for more financial support. He is in search of additional scholarships and a part time job to help pay for his education. Raul reported that money has been his biggest barrier towards attending college, though people in the university are making a giant effort to help him locate funds.
Raul is currently taking a full load of courses within the bilingual education program, and keeps busy in the Corp. He hopes to return to teach in a high school and help students in similar ways to Mrs. Schwab. If you would like to contact Raul his e-mail address is raultrinidad@neo.tamu.edu.
