Dr. Luana Zellner

Dr. Luana Zellner is Director of the Texas A&M Principals' Center. She is Associate Editor to the Reading Psychology Journal, program evaluator, a reading consultant, and Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resources. She has been a classroom teacher at the junior high and elementary school level as well as a learning disabilities specialist in Arizona, Colorado, and Texas. She has taught methods courses in the teacher education program, and the educational administration programs at Texas A&M University. She has extensive experience in working with collaborative school-university partnerships and regional service centers. Dr. Zellner has a B.A. in Social Sciences from San Jose State University, California, a M.A. in Special Education with an emphasis on learning disabilities from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Ph.D. in Educational Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on reading and educational technology from Texas A&M University.
She currently serves as principal investigator to the Houston Area Initiative Program, a teacher recruitment and retention program funded by the Sid W. Richardson Foundation. The program funds Seven Houston area principals and their work in making a difference in how teachers are recruited and retained in high need urban schools. She is also host to the 2003 International Network of Principals' Centers Conversation which will be held at the George Bush Library and Museum in College Station, Texas. Dr. Zellner is co-founder of the Laboratory for Learning Environments which concentrates on conducting research on designing and creating effective learning and teaching environments. School principals, teacher educators, and architects are currently working together in creating an interdisciplinary masters and doctoral degree program focused on what the school facility should look like in the future. Her research interests focus on building teacher leadership, designing effective schools, and creating student centered learning environments. Most of her courses are web-based principal preparation courses for the practicing professional administrator.
