EDTC 618 Applications of Telecommunications in Education
(a Web-based course)
Texas A&M University
Fall 1999
Welcome to this telecommunications applications course offered by the Educational Technology Program in the Department
of Educational Curriculum and Instruction at Texas A&M University. Dr. Karen L. Murphy is the instructor. You
can email Dr. Murphy at kmurphy@tamu.edu
The course is Web-based, with only one required face-to-face meeting to be held on Saturday, September 18, 1999
from 9:30am - 4:30 pm. We'll meet that day for an orientation and training session in 623 Harrington
on the TAMU campus in College Station. Our Orientation session falls on a TAMU home football day, so parking will
be difficult. Please bring:
- something to share for a potluck lunch
- something warm to wear (yes, indeed!)
- all of your course materials including printouts of the syllabus and schedule, your textbook, and the Course
Pack
Please note:
- The course is considered to be a fairly advanced telecommunications course that is primarily Web-based.
- The course requires at least intermediate Internet skills (e.g., email, email attachments, chats, FTP, Telnet,
Web searches).
- The course requires as much time and effort as, if not more than, a traditional course. Additionally, as a
lab course, it requires 14-15 hours per week for 15 weeks.
- The course actually begins on September 1.
- You are expected to complete 2 1/2 weeks of work prior to the September 18 orientation session. The assignments
will be posted in the syllabus.
The syllabus will be posted by the end of August. We will be in email contact by early
August. In the meantime, please see the Course
Description to learn basics about the course.
