File-Sharing Feature

The file-sharing feature allows class members to send files, which were created in other computer applications, to other class or group members. Some programs facilitate this function by having you attach documents to e-mail or discussion messages that you send. This means you can send your documents to an individual or a group of people. Other programs have a special area where you can 'upload' and 'download' your files. When you 'upload' a file, this means that you place it in a location on the server where others in your group can retrieve it, work on it, and then put it back. Only members of your group and your instructor have access to your files. This makes it easy to work on group projects, because everyone in your group can view and make changes to papers, presentations, or other files that are stored there. Sometimes these areas are referred to as 'shared work spaces'.
